Been on the bike today and coming down a hill my front tyre just suddenly blew out, apon further inspection the tyre had been slashed,I think someone has left pieces of metal on the road or glass!
Question is the t ear is about 3 to 6cm long do I get a new tyre? Or leave it be?

If you don't mind the tyre suddenly blowing out on descents, keep using it.
  • the tear is about 3 to 6cm long

So half as wide as your hand ?

Try pumping up the innertube and getting it to stay inside the tyre with a gap like that !

(No, don't try and pump it up - you'll kill the innertube)
  • Just to correct that is a fingernail size tear, bit a little bit of under tube does stick out

You've got bloody big finger nails then!
  • Haha, yer seems like new tyre! The inner tube sticking out like a dam hernia lol
So annoyed+angry though as bike only a few weeks old too :-(
Should I get exact replacement? Or get soothing better?

Depends what it is - but stock tyres are often pretty poor. Something often recommended on cycling forums is to change them quite quickly.

Just out of interest - to get home with something like that I'd have tried to find a piece of card or similar to line the inside of the tyre to stop the tube popping through - is that what others would do?

That or using a piece of stiff plastic or similar wrapped all the way around the tyre and then trimmed; this is usually referred to as a 'tyre boot'.
