Hi, I've a standard specilaized secteur elite 2012, which I'd like to lighten up as the back feels quite heavy. If I was going to change things to try and get it lighter. wheres best to start? Thanks. David

wheels will make the biggest difference in terms of weight

it will probably have mavic CXP22 wheels which are a bit heavy.

EDIT- checked the spec and has DT Axis 1.0 wheels which still weigh over 2000 grams.

I had these wheels on my Roubaix, and changed them for Roval Fusees which saved 500 grammes. also changed the tyres for Schwalbe Ultremos and the tubes for Specialized Turbo. Saved another 500 grams and a massive difference. Total cost- about £250.

Cheers, will change the wheels, I don't want to get a new bike as I really like it, just would like it to feel lighter and run quicker. David

The rovals were 1500g compared to about 2000g for the Mavics so look for a similar weight for a noticeable difference.

I changed the wheels tyres and tubes at the same time and the difference was startling.

These don't look a bad price for the spec- ITM Aeros- 1555grams, £245

see the 'road parts' thread for some very nice handbuilts sold by a resident forumite. 200 for 300 wheels. Ambrosio I think

I had a Spesh Secteur Elite and swapped the rubbish tyres that came with it to some Ultremos (via Michelin Kryllions which were a big improvement albeit slightly wooden) and some RS80s. Much, much better, but the bike is no sprightly racing bike. Hence, I ended up swapping the bike in the end (kept the RS80s though) :)

agreed, but unless the OP upgrades to a £4000 roubaix pro it still won't have a 1500g wheelset. Much better to upgrade wheels whilst saving for a better bike, and transplant the new wheels onto the new bike
