hi i'm 6'3 and was wondering if getting a bike with an 18 inch frame would be a silly idea?
I've liked the gt avalanche for a while but it's always been out of my price range but i've seen it on sale online for £459 and am very tempted by it. It's the 2010 or 2011 1.0 model but the 18 inch frame is the biggest they have left.

Only way to know is to sit on one.

6ft is generally borderline of the M 18" - l 20" frames, but thats not to say one ont fit, your best bet really is to sit on one first,
at 6ft3 i'd say Large frame straight off,Timmo.

I used to have an 20" Avalanche and I'm 6ft exactly. It was fine for me but I did sometimes feel I could have had the 18 and sometimes feel the same on my current large GT. Both have just enough standover clearance for my jewels.
Everyone's a different shape though so as advised previously best to sit on one and see how it feels for you.Vaaru Titanium Sram Red eTap
