Hi All,
Thinking of getting a hybrid bike. I am nearly 6ft 1, 106 kg of mostly muscle with size 14 feet.
Looking for strong hybrid bike. Will use for cycle paths, paths, bit of road and cycling around with the family.
Work has cycle to work scheme so was going to use that to lower gross salary to retain child benefit.
Bike wise not a clue, but some thoughts was:
Boardman Hybrid Pro - £1,000, but a halfords bike
Specialized Sirrus Limited 2012 Hybrid Bike - Around £1,200
Specialized Sirrus Pro 2012 Hybrid Bike £950
Specialized Sirrus lower edition?
Specialized:

Other? Cube, other?????
Also what to upgrade/change etc? Not a bike expert ;(
I am competitive and when I spring I sprint hard, so needs to be strong especially on chain-set.
Hopefully on occasionally holiday to Center Pacs the bike will be fine, otherwise have a Carrera ? bike ( (£300-£400 cheap bike with hybrid tyres).
Equipment I'll buy that out my own money. Cycle to work covers 1k so rest will pay out of my own money.
Also advice on D/other lock/alarms etc would be appreciated
Thanks,
Darren

Cannondale bad boy R4. I've just bought one (cycle to work) and its awesome. I think it's a true halfway house between my mountain and road bike. £765 Evans sale. Spend rest on kit. Job done.0

Thanks for info guys. I'll do some comparisons later once back from gym.
On the two specialized bikes Limited and Pro do you think it's better to get the Pro as Alloy frame. Wonder how strong carbon frames are as I am a strong guy who likes to sprint hard (competitive).0 -

I wouldn't worry too much about how "strong" the bike is. I get that you're a big strong guy but I doubt that you're capable of putting as much power through the pedals as the pros on their "dainty" carbon road/track bikes.

That guy's helping lift the weight up! You can see him holding onto it!
Cheater...When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro0 -
who is the balding guy at the bottom?
looks a bit old to be doing that - he should be taking it easy.
To the OP: You'll be fine on carbon bike but if you're that competitive shouldn't you be getting a road bike?0 -
That used to be me in the old days, but always with hair I just race myself back from a spin/rpm or weight session back home!0

Well I bit the bullet today with c2w scheme via work picked up the boardman hybrid pro and love it ! only thing I changed was tyres to conti gators. I used to ride a lot of miles on road bike but past 5years done nothing so piled on the pounds so hopefully this will get me back into swing of things again with aim of getting another road bike next year. Although people moan about halfords I am happy with Rydon Lane Exeter plus I always do the mechanics on my bikes so did a once over when home but all looked good, they also threw in an additional £50 of accessories on top of the £70 already off any bike over £700 this past weekend so feel a real bargain with £1120 worth for £10000

Not sure if serious :shock:0 -
Make sure the threads on the pedals have been greased - only problem I had with mine was that it was completely dry - fortunately I took them off immediately to replace with SPD pedals because after a few months riding they would never have come off!0

Wow, I'm surprised that none of the holier than though, how very dare you tax dodge using the B2W scheme people on here haven't picked up on this and heavily chastised you...Do not write below this line. Office use only.0 -
I think you should be looking at cyclocross bikes too. Capability for some light off-road, or you can whack some skinny slicks on there and rip up the tarmac.- - - - - - - - - -
