The posting I linked to says (1) buy an £11 XML torch (so that's a torch with a Cree emitter - which is what you asked about), (2) buy a couple of 18650 cells for £5 - or find someone who has some liberated from an old laptop, (3) buy a £5 charger to charge your 18650s and (4) buy a £3 mount to attach to your bike or your lid. So for under £30 you've a nice bright light running on rechargeables - for under £40 you have two of them.

Not to be a pendant but...

"any one brought a cree light?"

"Brought" Really... You think that's the correct word here? I know this is only the internet and you don't need to be correct all the time, but some people just don't try! (I'm over looking "any one".)

P.S. I'm not saying I'm a grammar/spelling king but that's just the wrong word! Don't even get me started on the lose/loose situation.

Anyway getting back on topic, How much you'll need to spend depends on what the light is for. Obviously you can get away with spending less if the light is solely for being seen rather than seeing with it. Make sense?

Cree lights are good and v bright. A buddy got one for £35 on ebay last week with charger, bar clamp and battery and its bright. You can ride in the woods at night with it though I cant tell you which model it is.

I use £6 decathlon lights for my commute. fast blink and small and light. all you need on the road if its street lit.

    :?:

To the OP: http://www.mtbbatteries.co.uk/mountain-bike-lights/ Possibly a bit more than you were wanting to spend but Smudge at MTB Batteries has a great record for customer service, and if you ever want to ride offroad at night you won't need to upgrade.

Are people actually riding on the roads with the torches or magicshine copies?

I use them off road and think they are great but I would have thought the bean pattern would be dazzling to on coming drivers?

Mine has a low beam option, and you can always angle it down a bit.

My son uses them to ride to school along some really dark, narrow, winding country lanes. Angles his down for cars but says the great thing is car's dip their lights as well before they even get round the bends.
