..... to understand that when the Met Office says 'Possibility of showers over the Pennines' what they actually mean is 'certainty of heavy rain'? This is the second time this year they've said it when I was off for a ride and the second time I believed it and the second time I was wrong to believe it......
On the bright side, my rear shifter cable broke near Gargrave so I had to ride 35 miles of Yorkshire, much in the pouring rain, in 34-14 (I didn't want to use the big ring as the failure had been partly caused by cow dung getting into the BB cable runners and jamming the mech. The thought of having to ride 50-14 was not a happy one. And I only got the back to 14 by screwing in the mech limit screw to take it off the 13).
Actually, to be fair to the SS crowd, it was surprisingly OK but if it had happened much sooner the story would have been different.
Ride was over to Barley - under Pendle Hill. First ride out with Airedale Olympic and it was fun!
