I recently installed this, and as well as looking great, it really does feel amazing.

Any other users here?

I also replaced a 5600 105 groupset with a 5700 105 groupset at the same time, so I cant comment on how much is to do with that or the cables, but shifting is now precise, sharp and smooth.

I like how the cable itself is coated with a special coating to allow more smooth running within the lubricated outers, and the fully sealed system has to be a bonus.

I have heard one or two reports of it failing prematurely though, however as with these things, people only tend to write about things that go wrong.

Expensive at c.£70 for the set (brakes & gear cables) though.

    I've got the brake cables on my SS, no point in buying gear cables :lol:, in the 2+ years I've had them on my bike I've lubricated the brake pivots and adjusted the cables as numerous blocks have worn but never lubed the cables. The outers weren't my first choice of colour but the £15 price tag swayed me.
    I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    Which system are you referring to?

    I've had a set on my MTB for about 4 years, they've been faultless. They've been covered in far more filth than a road bike would ever see and haven't needed touching once. I've just put a set on my Enigma and so far they've been great. They'll go on all my bikes in future.

    Don't be tempted to lube them at all! They're designed to be dry.

    Correct (I meant factory lube when I mentioned lube in my OP)
  • I've recently replaced dura-ace cables with these. First impressions are very good, silky smooth changes and excellent brake modulation. I hope they are long lived, we shall see.

    Hi - Did you fit these to a Secteur - if no my questions are not relevant as I am considering cabling my Sectuer gears with these.

    If yes may I ask;

    Did you use the standard Gore sealed cable length set or the extra long one for gear?
    If standard did you have enough outer?
    Did you cut the Gore outers to match the stock (OEM) Spesh Sectuer outer gear cable lengths?
    Did you cross the gear wires under the top tube as Spesh do on the Sectuers?

    Yes, it's a 2010 Secteur Comp frame I used. It came with a 105 (5600) triple, but I changed this to a 105 (5700) compact at the same time I did the cables. The 5600 does not route the gear cables under the bar tape like the 5700 does, so I had no "template" - I just measured /estimated the right cable lengths and did it from scratch. To answer your 4 questions;

    1) standard, I presume. I didn't know they came in different lengths, and the one I ordered had no mention of being extra long
    2) I had way more outer than I needed for both brake and cable systems - not far off a metre spare for both I reckon (can measure for you tomorrow if you wish).
    3) see above
    4) my Secteur doesn't cross the gear cables under the downtube (you say top tube, but I assume you meant downtube?) - they run parallel down to under the BB.
  • Brilliant thanks for the detailed info and apols yes I meant (should have said) down tube!

    the Extra long ones are for MTB's which are designed to have a Full outer setup (no bare cables). I don't think any Roadies have that...

    Cheers - I was wondering cause I read a review of these somewhere (can't remember where) and someone was criticising them for being short on the outer length and said he had to buy another set - sound wrong though as if Sectuer has some left over it on his bike they should be fine for my Sectuer as well (just have to get the cuts right first time :D )

    Definitely have loads of cable outer left over - way more than I expected.

    I put the Gore ride on cables onto my 1980s 531 frame, both brake and gear. I love the fact that the inner gear cables are protected, especially under the BB and it works as smooth as silk. It took me a while to figure out how it all goes together, and the rear brake outer cable is straight through (across the top tube), there was enough length for this.

    Stock up if you like the Ride On cables, they are stopping production this year.

    It was announced at Eurobike today. Apparently they struggle with OEM sales due to much higher costs than standard cables, and I guess the RideOn part of the business isn't profitable enough on just aftermarket sales.

    Brake and gears done on my Allez- gears give the best bang for bucks with near effortless smooth up shifts on the front.

    Thanks for the heads up on them being discontinued, think I'll buy another set for spares. Use them on MTB and winter road and haven't done any cable maintenance since fitting (they're quick to fit as well). I'd have them on my summer road bike to but they wouldn't work with the internal cabling, probably another nail in the coffin for their sales if it's a common thing with internal cable routed bikes (ones with inner guides in the frame anyhow).
