hey,
i would just like to share some experience with everyone, i brought a chain device, a q ring and a new chain and asked my local bike shop to have them put it on. i booked my appointment 2 weeks due to staff being on holiday and they claimed that nothing else was booked on that day and so it would be first on the list. on the day i brought the bike in exactly as they opened and handed over the bike with all the neccesary componenents. Then suddenly i was told i had to wait untill after lunch, because other bikes were already on the workstands. so then i had to wait untill later on in the day, times were busy and still are becasue im preparing to go to uni. however i then gave them a ring around 2 ish because in the past they have "forgotten" to ring me telling my bike was done ( this was a norm that they said would happen when they have finished and yet it didnt) i was then told that they hadnt even started on the bike, (the shop opened at 9:30) right then i asked when are they likely to start work on it and they could give me an answer, that just got me started. so i left it a while and gave them a ring back at 4:30 because clearly something was up, and still they said they hadnt began work on my bike. so that was it, with or without my stuff on my bike, i needed it back. on the way to the shop i got a phone call claiming it was done and
all ok. As i walked in, i was not even greeted for minutes and had to wait for roughly 5-10 minutes before someone asked. They went to collect my bike and the man came back saying " oh sorry we "forgot" to take the front deraillier off". (i almost blew it!) the manager called Darren Thomas attended to me promptly charging my £25!
as the bike came back it looked fine, everything on and all the pieces taken off back to me.
unfortunitly the shop was closing and so i had to leave, as i cycled away there was clearly a problem, the chain was rubbing on the chain device adn the gears were not even checked for running smoothly!!
I gave them a ring in the morning asking what on earth have you done! and why did they wait to do it last thing in the day! they ignored the second question and claimed they there will always be rubbin the chain device. now i have little mechanical abilities, more of a rider but i know for sure that, that isnt meant to sound like that!
Before i left i wanted a second opinion just to back me up in case, i people im recomending and i rang was Elmy Cycles on St.Helens Street Ipswich and they said no there is not meant to be any rubbing but the point of it was to catch the chain falling off.
As i walked into Thomas' a gentleman apprached me within centimeters of walking through the door, still had my gloves on, helmet and lil out of breath  a little clueless i said i rang up earlier about a chain device and surprise surprise the manager came walking through. basically grabbed the bike from my hands and started to explain his way of how it was meant to work. cycling backwards and forwards through the gears. i told him that i had rung up Elmy Cycles and they said that rubbin was not meant to happen, as i finished the sentence he snapped at me saying he totallly disregarded their word and claimed that they didnt know what they doing as theyre road specialists. i was like: does that even make a friken difference (sorry for the bad language but i hope you appreciate where im coming from) he then took it through the shop and put it into his work stand whilist explaining to me .every point he made he tapped my toptube with one of those tri allen key tools chipping the paint away, then i said right ok thanks and took the bike back. some of the last words that were said was that they are an offical cytech workshop and the manager was qualified at level 3.
Right i rang up elmys as soon as i left and booked an appointment. they told me i had to wait two days. i took my bike in a day early becasue i was working on the day of the appointment. they were telling me how busy they were just from complications that Thomas' has caused. this made me very angry that i was just another casulty. This is the LAST TIME i will be using Thomas' ever! disgracefull futher as i used to worked for them for the best part of a year. handed my letter in claiming i wanted to concerntrate on my exams but in fact i got annoyed and was appaulled by the way the shop is run.
when i came to pick up the bike they had
thanks

To be honest this is a job needing a set of allen keys (maybe a crank extractor maybe not) and about 30 minutes so on the one hand there is no way a shop should fudge it up or take so long to deal with it but then there is also no way the OP shouldnt have been able to do it himself and then a) learn something good about his bike and b) saved himself money and c) saved me having to read his post.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0

I didn't read the bit about working there! If you worked in a bike shop and still know nothing about maintenance then more fool you. If you worked in a bike shop you knew was carp and still took your bike there for a service then who do you have to blame?
Bad shops remain bad shops until forced to change (or shut) due to lack of customers - if people who know they are dreadful still go there there is no impetus for change. As the saying goes - fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -

Or as cuddly ex-president George W Bush would say;

very bad Dave!! me n the missus in the cinema came out after the movie n some basa had stripped my bike, took it to thomas's as the insurance company asked me to get an estimate for the parts replacement. they gave me an estimate for just over £600... left the bike there to be repaired, to cut a long story short they accused me of being a bicycle thief....treated me like a dog, they called me with nasty phone calls, one geeza a turkish man was shouting at me down the phone to bring the check in...and delayed the repair until i gave the the insurance check. then replaced all the parts with inferior parts n charged the insurance company £600.... never again!!!0

Does everyone who complains about this shop not know that sentences begin with a capital letter...

It's outrageous. I can't believe how badly they treated you. They didn't even greet you with a glass of chilled champagne.
You're going to need a lot of counselling to get over this ordeal. How dare they be busy and inconvenience you.
The cheek of it THE F**KING CHEEK.
Just reading about your ordeal makes me want to write a stiff letter to this "shop".
F**k it I'm headed to the shop to give them a piece of my mind.
Heads will roll.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

You should see the reports from the graduate engineer im stuck with. Five years at uni and a masters in mechanical engineering, waste of time. His grammar and spelling are even worse than mine. His designs are spectacular though, just a shame half of them are impossible to make.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
