Feeling a bit sorry for myself after getting back from a trip to A and E. Went up on the Quantocks and was having a fantastic ride, conditions just about perfect when I just seemed to lose the plot. I think it was partly shite riding and partly tyres pumped up too hard due to having two pinch flats on my last trip because I was struggling to keep to the line I'd picked, kept getting thrown to where I didn't want to go.
Anyway, ended up braking too hard and face planted onto the rocky singletrack ahead. I was on my own and thought I'd really hurt myself at first but after jumping around for a few minutes I realised there was nothing broken luckily although lots of cuts and bruises in the usual places and my nose was bleeding profusely. Managed to 'limp' back to the car park and came home to inspect the damage and found a small tear in my nostril and a huge lump on my forehead. They checked me out, glued my nose and cleaned up all of my cuts and grazes, flipping heck that hurt!
Anyway, I'm looking on the bright side thinking it could have been so much worse and also hoping Michael McIntyre can bring the smile back in Cardiff tonight!

I faceplanted in the peaks about two and a half weeks ago, lots of cuts etc, broken seatpost, and knocked my two front teeth out of whack - had to push them back into place myself on the trail, that was grim! Still not gotten to the dentist (got an appointment a week on monday), but I'm fairly sure one of them is going to fall out, and it could be an expensive dentist bill... Think yourself lucky!0

aaaggghhh, shut up, i hate anything to do with teeth.. I had half of one of my front ones knocked off/repaired years ago and am dreading the day I have to have it sorted.
Just re-read, if both fell out, how the hell do you think its going to stay in there?????? Aaaggghh, not sure I want to know.0 -
Lol they didn't fall out, they were just mis-aligned. Had to push them back in to line with my thumbs. It wasn't pleasant!0

There you go, it did happen! Apologies for the shaky image of my leg if you can link to it, not sure how vid clips work!! I've got some more gruesome ones of my nose and inside my top lip but won't put you through the ordeal of that. The first image was taken less than a minute before the off, just to give an idea of the landing. The other one was the scene after my cereal bar somehow got ejected from my camelbak onto the place where my face planted!!
Thanks for the sympathy from some of you though and McIntyre did bring a smile. Very funny in places but also a bit weak and too drawn out in others.
ilovedirt, I do consider myself very lucky not to have lost teeth like you, that puts mine into perspective. All very stiff today, my wrists have seized up now wheras yesterday I didn't think they were hurt. Hope your dentist bill isn't too bad!Vaaru Titanium Sram Red eTap

Nice bit of trail that, hope you cleaned it
Good to see your on the mend too.0 -
I wish my local riding looked like that
Hope you're alright anyway mate and get back on it soon, crashing is just part of the game!
FYI I got back out in the peaks for the first time after my crash and second time ever yesterday and had a blast Glad I didn't crash again, that would have really ruined it for me.0 -
Thanks!
The trails up on the Quantocks are nothing short of fantastic, 40 minutes drive for me. I genuinely think they are one of the best kept 'secrets' and match anything I've done anywhere. The best bit is all of the paths are bridleways so you can explore 'legally'. You could spend a week or two there easily and still find new sections similar to the one I came a cropper on. I didn't see another soul up there either yesterday apart from a herd of deer and a few wild horses, which is why riding alone is probably not the cleverest thing to do as phone signal up there is non existant in the coombes (valleys).
I was gutted to have to cut it short though, don't often get a chance to use a day off so selfishly!!Vaaru Titanium Sram Red eTap

you need a fairly large volume tyre for the quantocks to help with the pinch flats and allow you to run a lower pressure.
That looks like the trail down to Somerton Coombe which does have a few ruts which need to be avoided but it can be ridden very fast when you know it well. On the bright side your crash was probably less painful than the climb back up Ladies Edge!
Crashes are unfortunately a part of learning how to not crash.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Yeh, and it wasn't long after I'd finished hopping around that I checked to see if it was broken!! Just as well I had it because I used it to find the quickest route back to the car park at Holford, painful ride back it was too.
And cooldad, no, texting isn't my bag, I think I'm a similar age to you from what I've assumed from some of your posts.Vaaru Titanium Sram Red eTap
