I'm getting one to Manchester on Saturday at 7 in the morning, the trains only tend to stay for about 20 seconds or less before setting off, so I need to be quick and get in the right place. Which carriage is the bike storage in??

Someone on here must get First Transpennine trains regular.

Cheers.

    Thanks

The cycle signs are so small you need a telescope.

Got all sorts of paranoid about trans pennine trains when I planned to do the Way of The roses and travelled from Leeds to Morecambe with my Bike.

The official line was 2 bikes only and you couldnt book in advance. I was also leaving Leeds at 13:00 ish on a Saturday in the height of summer so didnt fancy my chances when we hit the platform and there were at least 4 other bikers there.

To cut a long story short, we all got on no probs and its pretty much at the discretion of the gaurd, I am sure at 0700 Will you ll have very few if any problems, I always carry a packet of Jaffa cakes as a bribe.

Apparently, it's wholly at the discretion of the guard, I asked one who works for one of FTP's competitors a while ago. The guard has sole responsibility for who and what goes on the train whilst they're in charge.

Also, even though they may have let you get on and although unlikley, they have the right to ask you to get off before your destination.

I can't really comment about FTPs bike policy as i work for a different company. But unless you can prebook your bike (East Coast, Virgin etc) then once the bike racks are full it is upto the guards discretion.
Also on older trains the bike area is often the same area used for luggage and wheelchair users. So yes you could be asked to move your bike and maybe even get off the train to wait for the next one!

Tim when you travelled from Leeds to Morecambe that wasn't Transpennine, its operated by Northern Rail. Glad you managed ok though.

FTP run from Leeds to Blackpool North with a change at either Manchester Airport (which would be silly!) or Manchester Piccadilly.

    (BTW, "Morning Crescent".....)

Yes Bev they do, and Northern run Direct trains with no changes from Leeds to Morecambe & Leeds to Blackpool North.
