Sprinting_ road bike vs MTB

Interested in the topic of which is the best tool for sprinting!
Lets say :
1) 300 metres on a flat course
Surely the MTB being heavier gains more momentum.
Also has smaller stiffer wheels so less flex when out of the saddle really giving it some!
Anyone know of any good comparison testing events or races between mtb and road bikes?
Discuss !

Sprinting up a mountain side: MTB
Sprinting on a road: road bike. There's reasons why Mark Cavendish uses a road bike in the Tour
Silly question really, TBH.Cool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.

I've seen fit riders out sprint road bikes here and there in the city!
I don't think its so silly, remember the scenario is 300metres flatland road!
Lets say the mtb has narrow slicks!
interested in discussion about weight, frame length, gear ratios0 -
I'm not. Road bike. EOT.I don't do smileys.

Are both riders fit? Do both riders know they are in a race? Do both riders have the same enthusiasm to win?
Do you honestly believe that if in the last 3-400m of a TdF stage two sprinters are battling for the line and one is on a mtb the mtb rider would win? Gearing, weight, rolling resistance, body position, pedalling efficiency etcCloset jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
Road bike.
Although I reckon over a shorter distance from standstill I'd be able to do quicker on my MTB than I would on my roadie, just because of the gearing and the fact I find it easier to change the gears on the MTB when I'm sprinting.
Quite why I'd really care I don't know... still might go find out tomorrow0 -

The best tool for sprinting is the lightest bike with the least tyre resistance. Momentum has nothing to do with it.0

Sails are light, but drag a tad.0

I can sprint at over 35mph on a road bike quite easily.
I can't sprint at 35mph on a mtb when trying very very hard indeed.

Ok I'm going to try and answer your question without being sarcastic....focus, and....
So you ve admitted that the MTB would be better with Slick tyres on. Good now lets make them nice and thin to further reduce rolling reistance too eh? Say 23mm wide?
Weight is important for accleration so lets remove the extra strength needed for MTBing in favour of weight. We could also use some of that to make the frame more aero if that's your bag...
A longer flatter position is better for body aerodynamics so let's lengthen the reach and lower the handlebars. In fact why don't we have a set of narrower bars too...say 42cm wide) that curl round at the end allowing the rider to get nice and low.
Gear ratios - well, we ll need to increase it a bit won't we...say to a 53 x 11?
I don't know about the rest of you but In my head I'm thinking something a bit like this?
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Yep. Dude asks for opinions then complains when he gets one he doesn't like. Fail. How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.
