What kind of mudguards do you guys use? I'm looking for something that doesn't cover the entire wheel so anything a bit smaller would be appreciated.

That and a crud for under the downtube.0

One of those RRP flap things on the fork crown to stop crap getting thrown up into my face.
generally don't bother with anything else when riding off road, since I'm bound to get covered in mud, nothing's going to prevent it.
Ignore the crud catcher downtube thing - they vary from practically useless to completely useless.0 -
Crud catcher is nice and simple. Only negative the rear does not lock in position well so I simply put a small screw into the hinge and now its fine. Light flexible and takes knocks well without cracking.0

I bought a bender fender the other day, I had a few clearance issues when fitting it and I'm still yet to give it a go to see if it works.0

+1 for the bender fender. I dont bother with anything on the downtube but do run a Crud Raceguard on the rear.0

Bender Fender here too.... And suffer the brown arse stripe0

I recently bought the topeak defender m1 front and defender m2 rear mud guards. The front fits inside the top of the fork so it moves with it. The guards then clip on and off. The rear has a quick release mechanism to attach to your seat post. Only use them to commute to work and are easily removable.

I've had mine for over a year and the rubber straps have just started to wear to the point where it's gonna break soon. People seem to have varying thoughts on them but in my opinion it definitely makes a difference to the amount of crap flung up into your body.
The frames always gonna get muddy if you're riding in inclement weather/conditions but at least you won't have to endure grit flying in your teeth. I'll get another one next time I visit Decathlon for sure, can't go wrong for 5 squid.Specialised Camber Comp 2011

RRP flap for the fork, Crud Catcher on the downtube, Crud Catcher rear on the HT when it gets bad and nothing on the FS as there's nowhere to mount it 'cos of all the hydraulic tubes to dropper seat etc.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

My mate has the RRP thingy - seems very effective.
YMMV on the Crud, but mine does a pretty good job for me...0 -
Prefer the Zefal Swan on the rear, it's the only quick-release (well fairly quick anyway...) type I've used that works.0

None.
Rear ones get knocked about, catch the wheel, fall off. You'll end up ripping it off, and you're going to be muddy anyway so what does it matter if your back gets muddy.
Front ones can be okay or can just be annoying. Protective eye wear and a bit of manualling over puddles I can't avoid generally deals with mud in the face issues.
Neoguard are okay on the front, but took mine off as it kept catching the wheel whenever the fork compresses on a jump/drop etc. Since then I realised I'm not getting much mud flying in my face anyway. I think it's the slack angle on my bikes now.0 -
Thanks for the assists guys.0

I have a fast fender up front for really muddy stuff and a rear crud, and a normal crud catcher that lives on my downtube.
I thought the look of the fast fender was a bit weird at the start (looks a bit motocross), but the look as grown on me and it's stopped all the crud hitting me in the face. It also has space for a race number if you go racing.0
