New rim(s) - replace Mavic XM 317 with the same or upgrade?

I've just buckled a rear rim, leaving it a bit misshapen with a small dent after an inner tube blow out.
I understand you can true a buckled wheel, but this kind of damage may be a bridge too far. With that in mind I'm keen to either replace like for like, or investigate whether the money is better spent on an alternative.
The bike's a Carrera Fury 2010 model, with Mavic XM 317 rims. I ride it fairly hard, and as a hard tail, I'd imagine the wheels have to withstand a lot.
Accepting there's going to be a cost involved here to put a new wheel together, is it worth replacing the wounded part like for like, or upgrading to something else?
Additional question: if upgrading, does it make much difference if I just switch the rear and not the front - so running different rims front and back?

Makes no difference. Have a look at Superstar and Merlin. Both have good, reasonably priced options.I don't do smileys.

my post count is probably fairly indicative of my rookie status, so please excuse the rookie questions.
Wondering whether buying replacement rims then paying LBS to fit them to the old hub/spokes etc. is the right way to go, or would it be wiser to buy a complete wheel?
Also, any model tips on those brands?0 -
Often a new wheel is cheaper. By the time you've bought a rim and new spokes, and had the wheel built, it will probably cost as much or more.
Depends on your budget but either build up a similar wheel
