iPhone navigation

Does anyone get decent results using an iPhone for turn by turn navigating on a bike?

Obviously a nice new Garmin is what I need, but I can't justify shelling out for one just yet and I've already got the phone... I'm pretty good with maps, but I fancy riding to Bruges (from London or Buckingham) and I'm sure there would be times when a bit of GPS assistance would help.

    How would you charge it?

I use an etrex 20, which are about £130 now I think, and take AA batteries.

I don't use it on the bike as I have a Garmin.

However, if I use it in the car the battery doesn't last much more than 2 hours.
    Could be the biggest problem.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.
  • My thinking is that I'd only use it occasionally (when lost/unsure of the direction) rather than leaving the GPS switched on all the time. I can imagine rolling off the ramp of the ferry in Dunkirk and not knowing where to pick up the cycle path...

I suppose the answer is proper prior planning!

Just use google maps to check route every now and then? That's what I do. Use garmin to record ride data, have a good idea of where I want to go then double check on iphone when I get lost

I just carry a few spare batteries.

For an iPhone that the OP is asking about?

    Oh  (Android)

I also carry one of these sometimes: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TeckNet%C2%AE-D ... 443&sr=8-1

Which is iPhone compatible and might be a solution.
