Further to my post in your mountain bikes, do people think it's a good idea for a 33 yr old, 6'2 numpty to buy a bmx?

It looks like fun, I've always wanted to do it, and surely it'll lead to a general improvement in skills for mtb. I've got good access to local bike parks, whereas mountain biking is always a car journey away. And my other half is practically encouraging me to get one. Weird.

Errrrrm, yeeeeeh...... In much the same sense that this is like a BMX but with legs, teeth and hair

I just fished a GT BMX out of a skip near me. Needs some parts but in general is in good condition.
I'm 40 years old...... Never too old to start learning new skills!!!

Bought this dirt cheap, first ride up the road on it tonight, pulled the front up, went straight off the back grazing my elbow, knee and hands! D'oh :oops:

I got one for exactly the reasons you did. Enjoyed fixing it up. Rode it about 2 and a half times, now it's got a puncture and I can never be bothered to fix it so it hands on the garage door. Where, to be fair, it does an excellent job of stopping me from buying another bmx.

I'm currently trying to smuggle one past the wife, under the guise of it being perfect to ride with the kids. 30 this year, time for an early mid life crisis, or maybe end of life crisis if I take it to the skate park down the road.

I'm the same mate.

After seeing them at the Cycle show yesterday, I spent the rest of the night trying to get an idea of what I want/need, but i'm still non the wiser, any suggestions?

Check out Winstanley they got lots of cheap bikes, keep an eye on the weight of the bikes, they can vary a lot even at the same price

I've actually just stuck mine up for sale.

It's just not being used as much as I'd like. Was fun for the first month or so, but the novelty wore off.

That being said, I'm quite happy to keep it in the garage and just get it out occasionally when I feel like it. Not like they take up much room

I've not ridden it much yet, if i get a chance to go biking I get the mtb out instead, which kinda wasn't the point. Now my hubs are buggered though, I might get the bmx out later this week. From the times I have ridden it though I've decided bigger bars would be helpful, but I'm reluctant to spend any money on it.
