Greetings O Great Hivemind!

This is a follow on from my great-move across the seven seas...

Basically...I will be putting some of my junk into storage as I dont have anyone I can burden with my belongings for an extended period of time...

Along with it is my bike...a boardman hybrid - 2 years old..its been round a few miles, but pretty well taken care of..

So I have 3 options to do:

1 - Store it for a year or possibly longer

2 - Sell it (how much would be expected? - it was £500 new, 2 years old, upgraded rear wheel)

3 - ship it with me (probably costing a £100) - i did want to buy a bike when i got there though.... :s

Thanks!

I'd ship - then you can go exploring on it when it arrives.

Whats the budget for the new bike and where are you going?
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?
  • He's going to Oz... and bikes there are expensive (though US brands can be cheaper than UK) so you need to do some research about what to buy. Secondhand stuff in Oz tends to be more expensive.

Try to avoid storage of anything. The cost of commercial storage and insurance, final delivery charges etc soon add up, compared to the value of furniture, electrical goods and other stuff. If you end up staying longer abroad, you'll probably scrap most of it anyway.
Take the bike with you, it is a great way to get about in the first few weeks while finding your way around.

oz is indeed where i'm heading too! :)

the thing with shipping is that it will arrive around 4-6 weeks after I get there, so i wouldnt have it to use in the beginning anyway..

if i was getting a new bike, it would probably be awhile before i get one as I'll need to settle a few things first any how, and i think i would be looking at second hand..i did look on ebay.au, they did seem to have some decent deals...

if i want to ship or sell i need to decide this week basically... :s

Well, I'd imagine it would be a bit off putting for the buyer!

    Bike case and excess luggage.
You can use the bike case to bring the new bike back! :P
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Store or sell it. Besides, I think hybrids are on the official contraband list.

Better to bring your bits and pieces as accessory prices here *are* high (shoes, helmets, clothing, miscellaneous parts). Bike prices aren't that bad really, always a deal to be done somewhere around town although the current exchange rate may make it look a bit steep.

Take it with you and sell it there if it becomes surplus to requirements?

As said above, it's a good way of getting about.
