Calves itch and hurt like an insect bite

Hey!
I'm doing LeJoG in 10 days, and sadly haven't had the time to put in all the training i'd hoped, so over the last couple weekends been trying to crank out a few miles. Did around 50+50 miles two weekends ago, and 90+20 this weekend. I'd was going to do 90+90 but thought I'd give it a quick one because of these things on my calves I think I developed on Saturday.
They feel like insect bites, are hard to touch and itch like a *****! However on my 20 miles excursion today I didn't feel a thing.
I've had a look around and can't seem to self diagnose, so was wondering if some cyclists could help!
When I was cycling on Sat it was the first time using SPDs and my quads did cramp up and hurt quite a bit every few hours, don't know if this contributed...
Thanks so much!
