What is the right price for a second hand Specialized allez road bike?

    as a rough guide a good clean second hand bike will fetch up to about half it's new price
  • Better rule of thumb IME; if you're buying second-hand, expect to pay 2/3rds the new price, and if selling expect to get 1/3rd. That's how it always seems to work for me :(

    also, price generally drops with age

    year one, it plummets, then year two onwards there's a more gentle decline
    my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny

    the rule of thumb my LBS told me they use for trade-ins is 50% of retail then deduct 10% per year off the residual value.

    Although they offered me £300 trade in for my 2008 rockhopper pro ( cost new £900 ) which broadly concurs with he above rule, I sold it on ebay for £580!!
