Flats or clipless I use both. Toe straps should be burnt in the fires of hell for all eternity. Mind you the straps are useful when bleeding brakes.

whats the purpose of the poll :?:
its common place in mountain biking for people to use more than one set up so I don't see why anyone would bother voting .

This, I use both SPDs and flats.
However toe straps have no place on a MTB.

but a zip tie is less embarrassing to own and you can get reusable ones.

I voted toe straps, along with two other idiots.

No one in their right mind would do it in real life though.

    SPD's - can't unclip in time = crash
    Flats - shins get destroyed
Toe Clips - can't get your foot out in time and the clip itself is great at getting caught on stuff

    Pick your downfall.

Not voting as it's pointless, but I ride flats. Purely personal preference and what works for you. A poll is going to tell you what?

I am just disappointed that everyone didn't vote for toe straps.

On the left hand pedal, you want SPD one side, and toe strap on the other, then on the right (driveside) you should ideally have a flat pedal, and if you do any dirt jumping, some road SPDs.

I have toe straps for the road bike when I don't want to use it seriously, I have clipless for the roadbike and the mountain bikes, I also have flats which rotate between the bikes, I've even used them on the roadie before now. Which one should I choose :?

On a side note today I decided to pop over to my grans on the bike, it's only 3 miles or so, took the xc bike with the clipless pedals still on it as I wasn't in the mood to be swapping pedals around but couldn't be arsed with the shoes so wore flipflops instead. Possibly not the best idea I've had, hard to put much power down, aside from that it was alright.

  • I use SPD's on everything, for all of the different types of riding I do. I do use flats in town, simply because I don't like having to carry spare shoes while going to work!
