Mix and Match wheels same vendor

Forgive my ignorance but is it against the rules to mix and match wheels but from the same vendor?
So for example a Mavic Aksium on the front and a Mavic Equipe on the rear.
Why? I have a chance of picking up a hardly used 2012 Mavic Equipe rear wheel at a really good price and was thinking of then putting on the rear and a Aksium on the front. As I dont have the fund to do both with Equipe's.
Unless I am wrong I was under the impression that a better rear wheel is more beneficial? Is this correct?
