Advice on bike please

Hi everyone looking for a bit of advise, looking to buy a mountain bike and basically don't have a clue about them. The bike would be used for the park next to me that has a nice big rout and is in the forest, my budget is £200 - £300 so can anyone recommend a good bike ive seen some really cheep bikes on go out doors and decathlon, but not sure if they will be rubbish also seen a nice mongoose switchback are these good or are there better bikes for the money ? any advise will be greatly appreciated.

    Im going to decathlon tomorrow so will probably pick up the Rockrider 5.3 2012 if its in stock, my wife says she might want a bike now but chances are it will get used 1 time and then sit in the garage so was thinking of picking up the ROCKRIDER 5.1 for her as its cheep at £150 are all the rockriders well built bikes and good for the price ?
