Presta valve

Ok I brought the topeak pocket rocket to pump up my b'twin Triban 3 wheels. Have turned to black rubber bit and the plastic bit round but I can't get it to connect and pump up. WHY?

    Have you unscrewed the Presta valve ?

    yup done it myself today. first puncture though i'd got a dodgy tube :)
