Double chainset chainring spacing

Hi everyone
I've tried googling this and not really come up with a definitive answer. The main question is are the chainrings on double specific chainsets such as Shimano XT M785 and the new 2013 SLX M675 always in the same position as the middle and granny ring on a triple? I current run a 1x9 setup up with an E13 xcx Chain device with a triple chainset with a 36 tooth chainring where the middle chainring should be. This works fine. What I'm worried about is with newer double specific chainsets in order to move the chainline to optimum position they've made the centre of the two chainrings to line up with the centre of the rear cassette? What I would like to know is if I get one of the chainsets mentioned above and put my current 36 tooth chainring where the outer chainring is on a double chainset, will it still line up with my chain guide?
Massive thanks is for anyone who can shed some light on this for me.

If they have altered the chainsets, you can just use spacers bedind the backplate to make it all line up0

A double with bash is the same as a triple with bash.
ie - SLX double and triple chainrings are in the same place/ have the same spacing.0 -
Spuddle, do you mean a spacer behind backplate of chain device? Because I don't think this will work. This moves the chain device out yes but also moves chainrings and crank arm out too. I think I could use spacers in between spider and chainring to move the outer chainring towards the frame and back into the 'middle'.
NorthernMonkey. You're talking about the current slx with double and bash or triple which are both essentially triple chainsets. I'm asking about the new crop of doubles which you couldn't get 3 chainrings on even if you wanted to because in Oder to make them prettier they've rounded off the outside of the spider and made it chunkier.
I appreciate both the responses though. Just trying to get my head around it all. Thanks guys.0
