A Touch of Cloth

A new TV show coming this month. When I heard the name I thought, surely they can't call it that? It's connotations are obvious. But now having seen a few more trailers, although it's presented as a gritty crime drama, I'm guessing it's a (black) comedy? Right? Anyone know?

It's got one of the actors from Green Wing in it .. I hope it shares some of the writers.

Did some investigation, and it turns out it's by Charlie Brooker. Now I think he's a genius in Screenwipe etc, but I don't know how his absurdity will translate to a tv series .. I guess we'll see ..

Granted, he's pretty good generally, although his Ch 4 specials were a bit hit and miss. Plus he's settled down with Konnie and has a new little baybee. This, as any fule kno, destroys a man's creative abilities. 8)

I saw an advert for that last night when I was in the pub. I almost spilt my pint I was laughing so hard.

It's a Brit Police Squad isn't it. Same innuendo, dreadful cliches, puns etc. It should be fantastic :)

Watched the first episode and loved it. I wasn't going to really give it a chance, especially after watching 'Gates' a few days earlier but Touch of Cloth was really funny, certainly my sense of humour. Just hoping it doesn't go downhill now.

Saw some of the first episode, thought it was trying a bit too hard. That said, it's early days, so I'll give it a chance.

Agree with this, I laughed out loud a lot but felt that they sacrificed the 'plot' a bit to just run gags at times. I enjoyed the bosses court statement even though it was obvious school boy double entendres.

Having watched it, a British Police Squad is exactly what it is. Thought it was good, especially some of the subtle background jokes (posters in the Police station especially). Could they keep it up for an entire series? I'm not so sure.

It's not early days. It was a two-parter, it's finished...

I enjoyed it, but think 2 (or maybe 4) 30 minute episodes would have worked better.

Future episodes have already been confirmed though.

I stand corrected, didn't know that.

I think they might have been better leaving it at that. I enjoyed it, but I was left feeling it had run its course.

I particularly enjoyed the pub scene. A pub called the "Copper Kettle", beer called Weiss Squad and an arcade machine called "Confession Beater", brilliant :).

I thought it was good .. loved the observations of really subtle aspects of the subject as mentioned above .. eg. when they arrest a guy and put them in the back of the police car, the police always manhandle them and shove their head down. In the show, the guys shrugs off the shove, and then bangs his head off the doorframe getting in .. lol.

The police liveried Rolls Royce. The funny camera angles where the camera would shift so the characters were in sex positions, or standing behind stuff on the perspex screens etc.

Female Coroner : "They handcuffed him to the bed and hacked him to bits."
Male Detective : "Some kind of sex game?"
Female Coroner : "Maybe later when I've finished pointing at blood."
