Hi all, in need of some advice please; have decided to upgrade to a full suss bike as dodgy back just cant hanlde 4 hrs around Dalby Forest on a hard tail anymore :-( could stretch to 2k and have been looking at a Lapierre Zesty 314 and Trek fuel ex 8. Thing is the Lapierre salesman as nothing good to say about the Trek and the local Trek guys haven't much good to say about the Lapierre!!! and too be honest I'm not sure if I need to buy something of that quality anyway? I want something that will handle Dalby and feel comfy to ride all day (not stooped over too much!), something that's going to last at least 5 yrs riding local trails once or twice a week and Dalby forest etc once or twice a month! Have had a look at cannondale RZ 120 and cube ams110 both of which would save me over £500. Any suggestions/advice would be really appreciated,

thanks.

Lots to choose from at that price. Get the one you are most comfortable on. I'd vote Trance, but I am biased!

Spec is awesome for the price; I have a Nerve AM 7.0 and love it (bit more travel and burlier than the XC). There are loads of threads about Canyon on here, but basically they are cheap because of their direct sales model. You have to order direct (unless you live in Germany), but I've had no real issues with that. Their sale is on now, and that Nerve XC I linked to above is even more of a bargain now.

I would recommend the Zesty having got a 214 myself and having owned an ex8 previously. The ex8 is a lighter and faster bike but the zesty will take a beating and is a very good 'do it all' bike.

If you go in two different stores and ask them about the products in the other store vs the one they sell what do you expect them to say? Sure in an ideal world they would point out the spec high and low lights of each model in a fair comparison but in reality they wanna sell their bike not the other shops bikes so they are going to tell you what will make the sale.

In reality for the same or similar price neither are bad bikes and you will probably enjoy either but a test ride will give you a better idea.....

  • Specialized Camber - you can get the 2012 Expert for £1600 now and they're cracking bikes, not heard anyone say a bad word about them. Specialized dealers are everywhere so you can actually try before you buy (as opposed to the Canyons) and the frames have lifetime warranty. Fairly futureproof too - 142mm rear dropouts, tapered head tube, dropper post cable guides...

maybe not as good as you thought, a front triangle isn't much good without the rest
any suspension-related parts or components are covered under the limited one (1) year warranty. Our Chainstays and Seatstays will now include a 5 year limited warranty.

  • Ok, so lifetime on the front triangle, 5 years on the rear triangle. Bit better than the 2-3 years everyone else seems to provide anyway...

its also a limited warranty, lots of conditions and various things that are excluded, you really should take time to read it, and i'm not being picky or trying to belittle it, spesh's warranty is probably the best out there, i own a spesh myself, i also own a canyon which has a 6 yr warranty with its various terms etc etc
