Newbie's new bike toss-up

First time for everyone.
I'm in the process of going for my first entry level hardtail because I'm slowly murdering the jaded town/trail man-trolley I've got now.
For the £400ish budget I've a toss-up at present between the
Felt Q520

& the Carrera Vulcan.

I have seen the under £500 review from this site but could do with a clue on the Felt and a broader opinion on the vulcan.
I'd be really appreciative of some advice fom you more experienced bods.
What would you go for?

The Kraken is the better bike - and also a test winner. main difference is that the fork has a damper ie is more controlled. but look at the Voodoo Bantu too.0
