Evening,

I, like many up and down the country, have been inspired by the recent sporting event in London to get up off my sedimentary backside and avoid an early death by taking up some kind of sport. I've settled on Cycling as I only work a commutable 10 miles away and I need to get out and about.

I've spent the day researching and I'm obviously not going to throw £1000+ at a bike in the first instance and so I've come across these three and would like some advice. I think I know what I'm going for, I was torn between the Carrera TDF or the Triban 3 and settled on the Triban 3 but I've just seen a Claud Butler Criterium 2011 for less than £250.

Should I stick with my original choice and go with the Triban? Or is the CB an viable option.

This of course could all change before next Friday as I'm keeping an eye open for a second hand bargain.

Thanks all.

Numerous posts on the Triban 3 which is considered to be a great buy by many.

I think the consensus would say the Triban is the best.

Yeah, figured as much. It's more than likely going to be that.

    Thanks.

What was your reason for switching from the carrera?

I read somewhere that the components on the Triban are the same as on a bike worth twice as much. Forks were of a better quality, a tad lighter etc.

Ok, so further investigation has led me to consider either the Triban 3 or the Specialized Allez 2012?
  • My dad just got a triban 3 and loves it. Outstanding vfm, and the right kind of setup for a newcomer, triple etc...
Current bike: 2014 Kinesis Racelight T2 - built by my good self!

if you can get a 2012 allez for the same price as a triban 3 and it is a good fit (no point having a bike that doesnt fit you) then I would probably go for it. Not saying it is the better bike as they are very similarly specced but the name will help with resale values
