That's why the thought of him losing millions in share prices makes me laugh.

    He really is an årse.
  • er hello, he helped stopped poverty in africa.
The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.

There's only 2 prices that count.

When you buy in, and when you sell

He bought in a lot lot lot lower than it is now.

I enjoyed watching him perform live on tv recently. He looked like a little wooden puppet; all jerky and old now.

Whenever I feel a bit down, I just tell myself that one day Bono will be dead. That always cheers me up.
  • My dad once told Bono, to his face mind, to piss off. I rank this as his greatest achievment.

Maybe, but most estimates of (vast) personal wealth include shares at current market value.
if the ipo was at $38 and his elevation corporation bought 44.7 million shares (best i could find on google) that makes the stock they own $1.7 BILLION.
yesterday the shares closed at $19.83, meaning they have lost $812 million.
i know its not all bonos, but it just makes me glow like ready brek.

Rick's point was that Bono didn't buy his shares at $38. He bought them years ago for peanuts.
He is maybe less well off than he was a month ago but he is still richer than he was a year ago.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

U2 are playing Live aid and inbetween songs Bono starts solemnly clapping, announcing "every time i clap my hands, a child in Africa starves to death".
A wag in the audience shouts "stop f***ing clapping then!".

What's the difference between listening to U2 and having a bucket of diarrhea thrown over you?
If you're covered in diarrhea you'll smell, but you can deal with the self-loathing.

Just a couple I found in the interwebs :-)

Oh BONO  , I don't refer to my self as that anymore.

God, the Messiah, or The Artist who formerly performed with U2 will suffice.

PS Sign up for a Red American Express card, then 10 cents of every dollar you spend goes to me.....

EDIT: I mean goes to halting AIDS and HIV In Africa, but it's all the same really.

The thing with Bono and others of his kind ie: Sting, Bob Geldoff, is that if it was not for the fact that they are 'celebrity' (hate that term) multi millionaires, they would not give a flying wotsit for the starving/dying millions in Africa or elsewhere. Because they have a few bob they all of a sudden become these fantastic humanitarians and preach to us that we are not doing enough for our fellow man.
Give money to your local charity, where it will be better appreciated and wisely spent (hopefully) and not to those that the egotistical figure heads like Bone etc etc beat the drum for.

Yep, once they start living off the same wage as an average wage earner and give the rest away I'll take them at face value.

I'm not much above average wage and don't go around the world in a private jet pontificating to everyone about how we should solve World poverty so no. But when I have the net worth to solve a small African nation's poverty on my own and start lecturing Governments and poorer people than me about such issues please feel free to rub my words in my face.

Quite agree Pross. What also grinds my gears with these so called Celebrity Philanthropists, is that I am sure they are only doing it to receive a Gong (MBE / KBE etc). There are thousands of people out there that work hard to turn a pound and still give their time to charity, and with no recognition. In actual fact I would go as far as saying they actually do not want the recognition. They do it because they want to.
