Sorry :)

I've looked so much, as soon as I think I know what I need to buy I read something that contradicts everything I thought I knew and I'm back to square one again.

I need to replace the Specialized Fast Trak tyres on my bike, I also have some bontrager mud x for winter/mud and the fast traks were used for summer - commuting + offroad: bridal ways, forests. I'm willing to sacrifice some on road performance for better off road use. I had thought that panaracer xc fires were what I need but then read they were terrible on road! If anyone could suggest a few different tyres that might be appropriate I'd be forever in your debt.

Ten different people, ten different opinions.
I use Maxxis Ignitor Exception (soft compound). Great off road, but I wouldn't use them for commuting.

    Thanks, I know it's a minefield!

I guess I could summarise my needs by asking for something more on-road friendly/less knobly than MUD Xs but better for offroad than fast trak LKs.

Kenda Small Block 8's. Great on firm stuff, rubbish in mud, but for that you have Mud X's.

I have just started to use some specialized ground control, they seem great off road and very good onroad/canal paths etc but not sure how well they will wear onroad etc
maybe worth mentioning I run they tubeless
