to the great keir hardie who was born on this day
a great man
"A pacifist, Hardie was appalled by the First World War and along with socialists in other countries he tried to organise an international general strike to stop the war. His stance was not popular, even within the Labour Party, but he continued to address anti-war demonstrations across the country and to support conscientious objectors. After a series of strokes Hardie died in hospital in Glasgow on 26 September 1915, aged 59"
Its funny how those who have experienced hard times tend to strive to better the lot of others - yet those who experience nought but privilege follow only self interest.

The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.

a true socialist-- he would not be allowed in millipedes nest, not that he would have any truck with what the 'labour' party has become.
As you say a great person of his time, parlimentary politrics seems to attract careerists mainly these days, you could interchange most of them and not notice the difference.......0 -

I fear your statement is a sweeping generalisation born out of political prejudice, and I'm not convinced it's even true as a generalisation. Still, that's politics for you, a good example of why only people with no political convictions at all should be allowed to run the country.
Though maybe when you look at the present lot that's not such a good idea.0 -
I think the missing proviso is class consciousness, without which not much else will forthcoming---0
