I think it's the way to go for me. I'm guessing its a pretty close-knit group who do this sort of thing? Lots of familiar faces at rides etc?
Is there much advantage to joining AUK?
Yeah there is a bit of "the usual suspects" thing going on. If you know who they are you probably are one too.
Join AUK and you get the magazine 4 times a year, if you aren't a member of CTC then you get £2 off entry per event from the insurance and in PBP years you get to enter PBP0 -
Ok. I take it that British Cycling membership doesnt benefit you in any way then?0

Well done on the ride! I did an Audax of similar length for the first time this year. It was the Severn Across, which is 400k or about 250 miles.

I don't think BC membership benefits you but I might be wrong.- Genesis Croix de Fer

Nice article. Sounds like your night stretch was colder than mine!0

Afraid not in terms of Audax UK membership or fees. It does give you decent 3rd party cover though. AUK membership gives you a good full-colour magazine four times a year and £2 off entry fees. Also there are other options for riding long distances, such as permanent events and 'DIYs' - routes you plan yourself, which is pretty much what you've just done.
Oh, and well done!

Cheers!
Does the mag give details of events that are going on? I've always found them a bit low key and the AUK website doesnt really say much other than basic details on the route etc.
Would be good to get the same sort of preview that you get in the popular bike mags for sportives.0 -
There's no more detail in the mag. It's up to the organisers to provide more information. An increasing number have their own web pages, so look for any links in the basic calendar listing. Also various forums (eg. yacf) have active audax groups that discuss up-coming rides or can tell you more.0

The mag does have write ups or reviews of events that people have just done. Probably about half a dozen per issue. But as there are hundreds of events a year this is just a drop in the ocean0 -
Much Kudos mate, hell of a ride.0

No chance! On Paris-Brest-Paris the locals know what you're doing and cheer you on.
On L-E-L no one has a clue and most passing drivers would happily run you over. If I'm going to suffer that much at least given me some crowd appreciation ;-)0 -

I've done both events and have to agree with your analysis
MGM is also next year however0 -
