Year to date: about 3900 miles and 290,000' of climbing plus 15 hours on the rollers in February. I was on holiday for 3 weeks in January and was on the road at the start of March.

There will be guys who easily do 50% more or double that though

This is where the commuters who do 25 miles each way 5 days a week will easily win. I work from home so cycling can only be a hobby. 2836 miles ytd.

I did 10,300 in 2010 but I'll be lucky to crack 6500 this year. Taking it easyish. There's plenty who do much more than that though possibly not on as hilly terrain.

    Ytd
    Miles: 1,337.8mi
    Elev Gain 85,582ft
    Rides: 48

A tiny amount compared to a lot of people, but I guess I don't commute. In the winter my weekly 'cycling training' tends to be in a gym so is not included in the above (or my weekly spin class)

Well - thought I'd have a quick total up cos I know I'm getting close to my target ...

nope - it's not huge - some ppl ride this distance in a month, but for me I have other hobbies and interests that take my time - so this is a bit secondary atm ...

Managed a total of 5 1/2 days in the saddle this year - climbed 82 thousand feet over 1800 miles and an overall avg speed of just 14mph.
I'm pretty pleased with that, I set a target of 2k miles this year having done just sub 1k for 8 months of last year ..

Yer - but it's FLAT in your neck of the woods ...

Perhaps we should have a handicap system to level the playing field ... ;)

4,690 miles year to date in total, 3,770 excluding commuting. 81,508 m of climbing. Haven't done as much as planned since my LEJoG in May.

Linear?! Pancakes have more lumps in them!
You've done about double my mileage this year and only 3/4 of the climbs ... and I haven't climbed much ... :D

The world record for mileage in a year is bout 75,000. That's 205 miles a day .. everyday. That 16 hours a day at 12.85mph, or 13.75 hours at 15mph. Set in 1939. Feel free to have a crack at it.
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Started looking at a few metrics on Strava... how about...

    Activities for July 2012
    359.6mi 18hr 46m 20,480ft

I did a quick calculation of my average speed for July and it was 19.2mph :?

Now this puzzled me for a bit because this seemed a little high (or more than a little!)... then I worked out that I had done 3 races in July (didn't get anywhere btw)... so a fair few of these miles would have been sat in the peloton having a free ride at a much higher pace than obviously on a road LOL

I won't tell you my 'average speed' for the previous months or even August as they are a little less impressive
