Hey all
apologies if this is already covered, I can't find anything related.
I currently ride a MTB and have signed up to do a 1,200k ride in Oman and UAE early next year. I looked at bikes between £2k - £3k and found rave reviews about the Focus Izalco Pro 3.0.
Having phoned round a few places, some shops are suggesting the bike is great but only for racing due to the geometry. I will need the bike to train on, do long rides before the event and for the event itself.
I love the look of the 3.0 and 2.0, but I'd rather spend my money on something better suited, if these are not best for various riding styles.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated

The Focus Izalco Pro 3 was Cycling+ bike of the year 2012

The review does sayCannondale’s SuperSix Apex may have the edge in the handling stakes and the Trek 3.5 Madone sneaks it for comfort, while Canyon’s Ultimate offers unparalleled equipment, but the Izalco is quite simply the best jack of all trades.
Personally I would have the Trek and upgrade the wheels and put a carbon seat post on it - but then I'm biased because that's what I ride.Summer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team
Winter - Trek Madone 3.5 2012 with UDi2 upgrade.
For getting dirty - Moda Canon0 -
I've got an Izalco pro and I can't fault it. It's not as comfy as my Look but I've had that for a while now and it's moulded to me.
In the past I've had a Bianchi 928 and a Trek Madone to name a couple and it blows them out of the water0 -
The bike'll be great, but its whether you find it comfortable is the main thing really.
Have you thought about a custom built steel frame? If you've got that sort of cash to spend, it might be worth going to a custom builder, getting measured up and then having something made that'll suit you.
Whatever you buy though, it'll take a bit of time to get used to due to the fact its a totally different ride position to a mountain bike.0
