hi folks.i have a bike i bought a couple of years ago with right sh***y forks on it and my mate has offered me his old tora's for 30quid but they are about 3-4 cm to short for the head tube size on the old bike,is there a gadget that can be used to extend the size of the stearer tube to make it longer to fit on my bike,
many thanks

yes and they are not really suitable.

find some with the correct or longer length.

Just to make sure. When you say 3-4 cm short, do mean you can put the stem, top cap etc but its all 3-4 cm lower down than before?

Or the steerer doesn't protrude far enough out of the headtube to put the stem on?

If the first one, you might be able to experiment with high rise stems and bars to get a suitable riding position. If the later then as Nick says get some forks that fit.
