Brompton RH (non folding) pedal - weak?

My RH pedal has started to creak really badly; this is the second pedal I have had on the bike as the first one started to make unhealthy noises after about 400 mikes, but I put that down to a fall on the ice in December last year.
Replacement pedals are cheap, less than a tenner on Amazon, but I am wondering if it is worth buying something more substantial instead? Is the right hand pedal weak in general? It could be related to my riding style, perhaps - I tend to push off with the right, also I put a lot of weight on it as I ride (kind of have to, lots of weight to move!)
Any suggestions?
