Anyone with sideburns had any "oy Wiggo" wisecracks whilst out riding ?
For the record, I've had sideburns since before Wiggo's balls dropped but all of a sudden you've only got 'em because of him !

this is the peril of fashion, the moment someone in the news matches you, you are seen as emulating them
i avoid this risk by cultivating an aura of deep and timeless unfashionabilitymy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
Had them for 20 yrs and up to now.... nothing. I follow/watch Road Racing so there's the Guy Martin thing as well.0

yep. i only got into bikes a few weeks ago and literally had never heard of him until the last week of TDF when i started to take notice. ive had chops for bloody years.
i was at a cafe stop last week and some bloke on a bike said to his little lad 'you need to grow some bradley's like him over there' pointing to me.
i used to get alot of guy martin comments when i raced motor bikes too...0 -
I had similar comments from someone who I've worked with for years and who also knew I was into cycling! 'Got sideburns like Wiggins I see' I heard during a lunch break just after Bradley had won the TdF. 'Er, had em for fooking years you muppet' as I waved my ten-year old ID badge photo at him :x0

Pfft. Any man can grow sideburns to copy the champ, you part-timers.
Having a nut lopped off; now THAT'S hero worship!0 -

Last time I grew mine they turned out to be mainly grey, so I'm going clean shaven from now on.0

Sideburns at ten years old is pretty impressive!0 -
Overtook some old guy on his shopper the other day, further up the road my chain somehow got jammed between my front mech and the chainring so I had to manhandle it back in to place. Old man rides past and shouts "nice bike Mr Wiggins!" I've had these sideburns since I was 16!0

I'm 33 and still can't grow sideburns .. I still hold out some hope, but I'm starting to think it's not going to happen, although I've started to develop some crazy eyebrows and ear and nasal hair! All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Oh my god I'm so glad I found this thread!
Yes! Literally the day after Wiggo won the final time trial on the Tour de France my dad said something about me growing them because of him. I've had them for 4 years! Ever since then I've had loads of comments about it.<hr noshade size="1"><font color="purple"><center><i><b><font size="2"><font face="Times New Roman"> "Boggis and Bunce and Bean. I've had mine for years, well should really say I had mine for years.
Went to barbers on monday & whoosh, faster than Hoy in a keirin they were gone. None of this "what do you want done with your sideys" malarkey. Razored in an instant & gone.
So now if I try & grow them back I'll just look like a fudnut trying to look cool. :roll:0 -
Well I have a full beard (about 4 years now) and prior to that had sideies since about 17.
According to the 'rules' facial hair of any knd is fround upon in cycling so I am a total outcast 8)
Even on my club runs I am 'that guy with the beard' so Wiggo has a long way to go to be a role model :-)Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Pah.
I've had smallish ones (just to earlobe) for years. And then some bl00dy smart ar5e in our London to Paris group suggests we should grow proper Bradleys for charity and shave them off in Paris. Now I look like a complete noob, who's just starting growing 'burns too!0 -
I'm growing mine because I have just left the army i have always been moaned at for having them, not because of wiggo.

Had my sideburns since listening to blur that was nearly twenty years ago.0

Sorry if I offend anybody. But I think they look ridiculous. I can understand growing them to a certain length. But going past the ear lobe is too long in my book.Cube Attain SL Disc

Slightly off topic, but what would you suggest someone is implying if they shouted ''Go Lance..." as you rode past :oops:Simon0

I'd be offended that someone thought I was a druggie.
I've had chops for a few years now but I haven't had a comment made yet.0 -
I've had sideburns for decades. Once they continued from ear to ear (beared). Then they went solo with my goatee. They were even modified to pointy jobs like Capt Kirk. I eventually lost the goatee (too much grey hair) appearing! Until recently all I had left was a "fanny tickler" under my bottom lip. Now all I have left apart from the hair on my head is my sideburns - and ginger too!Giant XTC Pro-Carbon

I get enough strange looks when I come back from leave with a full on beard. Apparently it's not the done thing if you're completely bald...0
