Hi, so i have been selling my old bikes and I have finally got the budget to buy and upgrade a new bike, I have decided on a Cannondale Supersix because of the geometry (I might race next year) My budget is around £1900. I have got the bike at £1200 and will sell the 105/tektro/fsa groupset and replace with probably Ultegra maybe Campag Chorus? I was going to go for SRAM Red, but it is relatively expensive in comparison with Ultegra. Then swap the Mavic Aksium WTS with Planet X carbon 50mm wheels, £350. Also fizik saddle and a carbon seatpost. I am 90% sure on what to do, any other ideas or thoughts? Thanks

Apart from the Tecktro brakes I do not see any great benefit in swapping the Group set out for other stuff.

Also if you shop around you can get the Super6 within your budget with fill shimano group maybe even Ultegra. 2013 models out soon and bound to be deals to be had on old stock if you wait a little longer.

Regarding wheels then this is worth doing but I doubt the Planet x are much of an improvement over the Aksiums.
    Yellow is the new Black.
  • So swap the brakes and invest in wheels(better than Planet x), instead of better components? Is there a lot of difference between 105 and Ultegra?

  • I recently bought a 'Dale Six Carbon and swapped all the Shimano (fishing tackle*) for a mix of Centaur and Veloce. Kept the FSA cranks (due to budget) and put on Campy Neutrons from another bike (these ARE an improvement over Aksiums, but they're expensive). Cost me nothing to sell the used 105 stuff for new Camp components. The bike looks great, but a little part of me still thinks Campag is wasted on anything not Italian.**

There's virtually no difference, that you're going to notice, between 105 and Ultegra.

    * Dear Shimano boys - don't give me a hard time... it's only an opinion!

The bike comes with 105 brakes rather than tne Tekro ones listed ...

I'd run the 105 over the winter and spend some money on wheels and an FSA K-force crankset ... You can then upgrade the groupo to either Shimano or SRAM later ...

I bought a Super6 just a few weeks ago and so far I've updated the stem/bars/seatpin (FSA team issue) and stuck my old (well 4 months old) Fizik Aliante (white/black) on along with white logo'd Fizik tape ... Looks loads better than off the peg version ...

I'll be getting Mavic Ksyrium Elites as the next upgrade but I'm gonna ride the stock wheels over the winter ... As for the groupo, I'll get get round to getting a Force Groupo by next summer ...

  • I think the bike i have seen does have Tektro brakes. I think I might go for more expensive deep section carbon wheels instead of upgrading the groupset, because i probably will race next year. Is there much difference between Planet X Carbon Wheels and say carbon wheels worth much more, if so which wheelset am I better off going for? Or should I go with Krysium Elites, some great reviews on here! But Cosmetically I do think Ultegra looks much nicer than 105

Regarding the wheels I was not rubbishing Planet X per se just stating that those particular wheels may not be such an improvement.

Regarding carbon wheels there is many an argument about their benefits (or not) but I will not rekindle that particular chestnut.

Ugo is the resident wheel building genius on here and he would be better placed to advise on a wheel upgrade to suit your needs.

OP where did you get the Supersix for £1200 from? I'm looking at one at the moment but its over £1300
  • My mate bought the bike said it was too small for him, so he asked if i wanted it for £1200, with no miles in it :D
