Hi guys, Can anyone recommend a cheap (Under £20) but good headset removal tool for 1.1/8"?
Was looking at this - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=10223
Worth the investment?
Also, What do people think about using a homemade press tool? I.e a length of threaded rod with 2 blocks of wood...

Or you could use a long screwdriver and tap it out slowly from the inside working your way round to keep it straight as it come out.0 -
This^^^^^^^
But I find one big whack to get it out, more sophisticated whacking with a bit of wood as a cushion to get the new one in.I don't do smileys.

if its coming out, you're probably not wanting to keep it, so the big screwdriver is fine
on the way in, several chunky chunks of wood, plus a long bit of wood, work nicely for me.0 -
Having seen a few frames go from being perfectly fine to written off in one misguided hammer hit, I'd always reccomend that you take the frame to a bike shop to fit a headset.
If you take a big pack of biscuits, they may do it for you right there and then.0 -

That didn't work at all for me! The copper pipe just started bending. Trusty old screwdriver or chisel to get it out! Just watch you don't damage the frame.0
