Cable Rub - Is it normal?

Hiya all. Forgive me if this is a bit of a naive question! :D

I'm new to biking and noticed earlier that the way the cables are routed on my new Boardman bike are making a bit of a mess of the paint on the top of the front forks. Every time I turn the handlebars the cables rub on the paintwork. Is this just a necessary evil that I have to put up with?

Yes, but changing lengths and adding protection will stop it.

Yep, perfectly normal. Invest in some helitape if it bothers you.

invest in protection anyway, anywhere the cables come into contact with your frame, cable rub can actually cut into your frame over time

Agreed, cables can cut through anything. Plenty helicopter tape on Ebay. Routing looks a bit suspect as well though.

very. looks like someone has gone fo the straight wires under the down tube when crossed would be better.

Yeah, it's worth rerouting, will only take a few minutes.

Hmm. I had a problem with the bike when I bought it and they had to change the front forks so I wonder if they have not put the cables back on the correct side after refitting?

It's due it's 6 week service......I wonder if I should ask 'em to do it? Surely it isn't an amateurs DIY job given they are hydraulic?

Bl**dy annoying tbh as the paintwork on the top of the forks is well scuffed now. :(

Sh*t happens, its a bike not a work of art, the guys are talking about the cables not the hose for the brake that should cross under the down tube instead of running in parrallel.

dont need to do anything with the cables. just remove the fork and fit it the right way between the cables.

There was a mod involving a few cable ties in MBUK a while back.

Basically tie one around the underside of the headtube then loop a couple more through it and use these to keep the cables/hoses away from the fork crown.
