Tubeless?

Hi All,
I was recommended to go tubeless by a friend. He says he gets a lot less punctures and they are generally more reliable. I was wondering if is it easy to go tubeless and look after them? If so do you guys recommend a specific tyre?
Is is better to run different tyres on the front and back?
I ride XC and on the road for commuting.
Thanks
