So the roadies have got one - http://app.strava.com/clubs/10494
Have we, and do we want one? Just for fun you know
The search on Strava is fairly useless. Doesn't even show the above club. Only found it from a forum post.
Maybe a Crud club too

Yes we do!
I'd find it quite interesting to see what others are up to seeing as I have no mates that mountain bike.0 -

I'm in the same boat, and think it'd be a good idea as well. If nothing else, it might encourage a little healthy competition!0 -
I don't ride where any of the rest of you feckers ride, so, no. Pointless.
We already have an endomondo group to keep track of general mileage.0 -

But sometimes you do. Or sometimes others do where you do. Or something.0 -

I've only ever met two other crudders/forum members.
It's rare that I meet anyone when I'm out riding actually, which suits me since I don't really like people. But, after about 20 years of riding, you'd think I'd bump into a few more people if they were around.0 -
They probably smell your helmet well before you're in sight, and hide.I don't do smileys.

I've met loads of people off this forum, which is precisely why I prefer to ride alone0

Ah, well you see, the clown bike puts me in touch with a whole new group of people I can meet, ride with, then avoid forevermore.0 -

Well that's the thing with Strava innit, you don't have to be there at the same time to compare times! Everyone can race hermit-style.0 -

But you're all southern (and midlands) Jessies. what's the point? You do not ride in the same place(s) as me. how is it going to be at all useful or interesting?0 -
I had a quick look on strava and was surprised to see that there is a time posted for a hill that starts 10 meters from my house! I've never seen anyone going there before, but I suppose it just highlights the fact that people do go to the places that we ride, even if we don't actually see anyone.
Personally I've found it interesting browsing through the areas I ride and seeing the times people put up, it can give you something to aim for,if you like that sort of thing, and know how to upload it!0 -

I now hold the 'honour' of being master, nay Lord, of both the STW and BR Strava clubs. I reckon that's a KOM in iteself.

I'm from Rhyl (though I live in London these days but my parents are still up that way) and often go back to ride the N. Wales trails. Do you only ever ride locally or something?0 -

And despite this being the holy grail of mountain biking, and despite knowing a lot of riders round here at least in passing, and despite apparently large numbers of tourists, I still rarely bump into anyone else on the trails. and that's kind of nice.0 -
If you want fast Strava times. Record with a phone (particularly HTC flavoured ones) when they lose GPS they just guess and draw a line based on already known common routes. The line isn't drawn until it picks you up again and it always makes you faster than you are! For instance the final ladybower descent was 30 seconds quicker by phone than GPS watch for a friend!0
-
Not neccesarilly. If you have a route which twists and turns, like say a switchback, then losing GPS will make your route seem shorter than it actually was, so instead of coverig 1.7 miles, say, you may be recorded as only covering a mile, but in the same time.
A straight line is always the shortest distance between two points.
EDIT:
Mind you, those weird errors when sometimes your GPS think you've jetted off to Spain or Israel for half a second would definitely add to your speed0 -
YeehaaMcgee wrote:I ride mostly in North Wales, yes. There's loads of stuff here so I rarely feel the need to venture further afield. I do maybe two trips away a year or so to check out somewhere new.

There we go then - get on Strava and we'd be able to compare times/distances/routes. Or don't, it ain't a big deal.
It is certainly good to have quiet trails. Although it's pretty rare that I feel like somewhere I've been is busy enough that I actually think "oh, it's busy here". Even Llandegla wasn't all that bad for it.cooldad wrote:Are you Sheeps bastard brother. His mum lives in Rhyl. She's quite famous.
Not that I know of! I've heard about her but only on here. Unless she goes by a different name than "Sheep's mum" in real life which is probable.0 -
Nah, you're ok, I never venture over towards Rhyl on the bike. The shock of discovering "the wheel" could upset their fragile ecosystem.
And you're lying, everyone knows Sheep's mum. In a way, he's all our sons.
Mind you, we did do a BHF charity bike ride starting from Rhyl last year, and the locals stopped banging their sticks ont he ground for a bit to pay attention, but didn't actually grasp the "wheel" idea.
To be honest, I don't know what they thought was going on.0 -
