Forgetting about the results you were most personally invested in...

What have been the best sporting moments for you from this Olympics? ( I am referring to best competitive moments rather than favourite outcomes)

I have watched a fair bit of the olympics but obviously due to BBC focus on Brit participation my take is restricted but here are my two.

Mens Kierin final. Outstanding last lap and mens 5,000 metre final. Again, an outstanding last lap, 6 guys all burying themselves from 300 metres out.

I hear the 800 metres was a classic but I have not yet seen it.

So what are yours? I may have to do some you tubing if there are some must see moments.

Bolt acting classy .. ignoring a TV interview to respect the Kenyan national anthem when David Rudisha was awarded his gold .. doing the Mo-bot 2m after crossing the line in the 4 x 100m to recognise Farah's achievements .. thanking Birmingham and Brunel for their hospitality in at least 2 interviews.

Wiggins destroying the field in another Time Trial.

The high speed Mexican Wave going round the velodrome when the Brits were riding .. they're usually just for when the crowd are bored in a football match .. but they work well in the velodrome .. like a bow-wave or sonic boom shockwave following the riders.
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Brilliant fight and i also was thinking the womens boxing would be a bit soft, boy was i wrong, this fight was as good as any of the mens fights i saw.

  • The look on Laura Trotts face when she had won her second gold, and was at the velodrome rail, holding the GB flag.

She was smiling and also looking a bit ' I cannot believe this is all aimed at me and I cannot comprehend what is happening'.... bemused confusion along the lines of 'have I come to the right place ?'

Men's pursuit. Was just so clinical and coldly executed. Jack Bauer (of 24 fame) would have been proud. Same for Wiggins.

Seeing Bolt retain 3 medals. Has that ever been done before?

The canoeing thing where we won Gold and Silver. Hell of a moment in the canteen at work seeing that.

+1 to Stunning Nicola because she was new to me on the scene and showed a fantastic skill in a brutal sport for women also if SPOTY was for personality then she is the one by miles. Even if she didn't box again she is assured of a life of motivation speaking etc.

Seen THAT clip(when she looks to the skys and says love you mum) quite a few times now. Still gets me.

The whole "show" itself has actually been very impressive. We've done it a bit different to the others. Who'd have thought we could have got it SO right. amazing. 8)

David Rudish's world record 800m where every other runner who finished was triumphant at smashing their own PB or country record.
    The women's 4x 100m relay, smashing a WR set in 1985.
Indian dancing in the closing ceremony.

not a single olympic sporting moment, I know, but...

Mo, Ennis and Gibbons - Gibbons as the tearjerker, Ennis as the greatest achievement (with the women's track cycling a close second, that's probably illogical but there you go) and Mo Farah for making you proud to be British. Sure, we could turn everyone of the wrong colour/nationality/whatever away, or treat them like second-class citizens. Instead, we gave someone a chance and they flew with it. If I ever need a happy thought, I'll imagine Nick Griffin watching Mo's achievements, and the interviews after, and breaking down as he realises why his whole twisted worldview is so utterly wrong.

In fact, the whole thing made me proud that we can be drawn together and do something right - especially as it's something that's not bombing the shit out of some other country over half a century ago (even if that was for a good reason). Now off to watch the Paralympics :).
  • David Rudisha in the 800m.

My earliest Olympic memories are Coe/Ovett in 84 Los Angeles and the time when Britain dominated middle distance running, and I ran 800 myself for my school so always loved the event more than the vastly over-rated 100m. Then to see how he ran the race, not just winning but breaking one of the hardest world records was amazing. Then seeing him interviewed after and doing the media rounds, such class and dignity. brilliant.

Mo's Double, David Rudisha 800mtrs and Mens 4x100mtr final. Loved all the cycling.
Saw the Brit girl get silver in Modern Pentathlon. Shooting followed by 1k run - 3times. Now that takes some doing.

I enjoyed Hoy's mum's reaction to the Keirin final. Priceless. I could watch that again and again.

I'm no gymnast fan, or at least no fan of men's gymnastics, but I really got into the Mens Team GB bronze medal. All of them produced almost flawless floor routines under extreme pressure.
  • Just too many to pick any out

I was so sceptical about the olympics 'cos they were LONDONS. However, what a great haul of medals for team GB and it's been so nice to have the news dominated by a happy event (wether we'd won medals on the day or not).
I know people in the world are starving, Bankers are robbing bastards, politicians are liars and cheats, Syria is in a state of civil war, a poor girls has been murdered (allegedley) by her grand parents and the ecconomy is crap and all sorts of other shit. But, just for a brief fortnight it's not been top of the agenda and we've all been able to smile.
A massive thank you to ALL THE OLYMPIANS OF EVERY NATION.

For a brief time a shining light shone through all the gloom
