Just manage to bend my rear mech yesterday by falling off my bike while blastin rnd cannock. The one on there is a shimano alivio which came on the bike. I wud now like to go 2x10 my question is......if I get all the things such as a new crank, chain, new rear mech and shifter cud I just keep the front mech which is currently on there and just adjust the screws so it wudnt go any further. Front mech is also an alivio.

Call me weird but it seems like a load of expense for a dinged Alivio mech, without a significant benefit.I don't do smileys.

I'm not sure you'd need a new crank, I've just changed from a triple XT 42/32/24 to a 36/24.will save you some cash. Also in reply to your question, you 'could' adjust the front mech, but would be better getting a dedicated 2/10, you can get front mechs for about £20ish new, less on pinkbike etc. Hope this helps0

I've wanted to go to 2x10 for a while this has just caused me to do it a lot sooner than I wanted.to that's all.0

Depending on current cranks, unless external BB you'll also need the BB shell facing.I don't do smileys.

just thought also, if you get a 10 spd cassette make sure your hub can take it. Many 8/9 hubs won't take a 10!! It really is a nightmare upgrading from 9 to 10, in that you've got to do it all in one go.0

8,9 and 10 speed cassettes are the same width.I don't do smileys.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but how is it that when buying wheels 8/9 speed is stated but not 10?? I'd be interested to know if it makes no difference0

I don't know, ask them. Maybe they haven't updated their websites.I don't do smileys.

pick up the special pointed hat on the way........
Most 9 speed cranks and mechs work fine with 10speed......I wouldn't change unless you have to.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

I think the crank before mech means he is talking about front mechs.0
