spd AND spd-sl/look shoes with lugged soles?

Evening All,

I have a quandary. Ive just bought a road bike and want to start getting a bit more distance in my legs to complement my XC riding. I have spd pedals on my MTB and some old MTB shoes that need replacing. My road bike came with look pedals.

Does anybody know of any shoes that are both spd and spd-sl/look compatible but that have at least a bit of lugging on the sole to allow a bit of dabbing when out on my MTB?

From what I can gather the Lake CX125 shoes would have been ideal, but they dont seem to be made anymore.

Id rather buy one pair of shoes and swap cleats rather than two pairs of shoes or buy new spd pedals for my road bike.

Or would it be better just to ditch the look pedals and get some spds for the road bike?

Cheers, Andy.

As above. The shoes are compatible with any cleats, but look cleats are not compatible with shimano's spd and vice versa.
  • Until you decide you want some proper Road shoes just pop some 520's on the road bike. Simples.

    ^^^ This
  • Thanks for all the quick responses!

Id thought that new pedals might be the obvious solution.

Anyone fancy some look classic pedals?

I wouldnt faff about with changing cleats from one ride to the next - they need lining up and what not - too much risk to the old knee bits for my taste - and faff.

there is a bit of a power transfer loss in all but the most racey mtb shoes vs a true road oriented disco slipper but mtb shoes and a brim on your helmet give the big old middle finger to the roadies! Make sure you leave the mud on the shoes to complete the ensemble.

And the hairier your legs the better. :D

Add in a camelback for good measure! You'll be loved
  • Ha ha!

    All good advice. Cheers!

Ps. I've been working on my hairy legs for the last 26 years so they'll definitely be staying.
