Hi, first post in the roadie section so please be kind, I am thinking of buying a road bike as I am tired of commuting on my mountain bike, I have a budget of about £1000, what would people in the know recommend to me?

Thanks

  • Is that £1000 budget for a bike or for all the bits and the bike?.

You may have a mountain bike and like me most bits will cross over but remember theres diferent type of shoes/pedals/saddle bag/pump amybe even clothing etc?.

Lot to be said for using the same pedals and shoes; familiarity if nothing else. Don't most pumps do both valve types these days?

Most pumps do yes, but many mountain bike ones are capped at around 70psi when a road bike tyre needs to be at around 90-100psi.

I have come from over 10years MTBing so i know what its like yes pedals and shoes from MTB do help if nothing but being familiar but having said that my tansition from MTB SPD to Road SPD SL wasnt hard but found the SLs more effienient and improved my riding.

Clothing has also become a different animal in being used to Baggy wear everythings muh more 'tight' and 'aero' lol
