Just to counter the negative experiences thread...

Was slogging up a long hill the other day, when a group of three young teenage girls started cheering me on - no doubt taking the p*ss a bit, but in a lighthearted, fun and non-nasty way - it was actually really funny and they cheered when I put my arm up in mock celebration. Made me really smile for the next few miles!

drying my socks and shoes on a train back from 3 hours of freezing rain down to Brighton and managed to get chatting to a girl after I asked if she could smell my drying socks

Honestly i can say the best thing that happens is whenever i have a problem on my weekly loops through Richmond Park, there are always friendly helpful cyclists willing to stop and help any way they can. It's really very nice of you whoever you are, i appreciate it.

50 miles of glorious hilly Devon sunshine, plenty of time, so not rushing, bikes all running smoothly, new super comfy bibs & posh chamois cream.

Dunno about the "best" ... but some of the more memorable moments have been when I'm solo riding and come across a rider or group going the same way - passing the time with some like minded ppl is good - even got invited to the teastop with one group - unfortunately it was too far off my course ...

Other nice moments are when you get to the top of a climb, look back and see the top of the previous climb in the distance and know that you've ridden the gap between ...

first time I read that I thought you said "she asked if could smell your drying socks - I was then wondering why you went out with her?

Cycling back from work - tall and rather glamorous slim blonde, on her bike, shouts to me "gorgeous" - I feel great and 20 years younger - as she gets closer, she then follows it up with - "your bike is really gorgeous" - I age 20 years.
  • Still waiting to happen, but the day after a long 100 mile ride and some fit blonde at the side of the road waves me down and offers to suck me off for free.

I get this sort of thing sometimes when I'm running my hill sessions - the best long hill near me is actually not far from the town centre and in amongst a housing area. I was plugging away on a wet and dreary day halfway up one hill when I passed a gent who was looking to cross. He saw my pained expression and said "No pain, no gain!". I managed to blurt out "Absolutely!" from my aching lungs, but I was smiling for the rest of the session.

Not the "best thing ever", but one I remember with a smile.

Not on my bike, but was working supporting one of my young men in the community this week. Stopped for some lunch at our favourite cafe and a large group of YOGIs turned up for their cake stop. Had a lovely chat with a nice friendly group... Hope to ride with them again when circumstances allow

I hate it when that happens, it so messes up my Strada times.

Similar to OP - on the day of the olympic road race just after the peloton went past I went off to tackle one of the hills they'd descended (combe lane I think). With hundreds still lining the road or walking down and so many of them screaming "allez! allez!" it felt like being a pro... although obviously most of it was in jest!

On the Cannock Chase 100 Sportive, just before the 2nd feed station at 67miles, there was a family sat on a bench shouting encouragement and doing a Mexican wave for every rider :D
  • Riding in the peak district and not raining for once.
  • P@nct?re, in fact both tyres at once, only one inner tube, nothing left for it but to phone missus and sit on a seat in the morning sun waiting for her to arrive with car.
  • 10:30PM start of the first French stage, Calais-Therouanne stage on London 2 Paris 24-hour ride. Also happened to be nearing the end of Bastille Day. Whole famillies had realised an organised ride was taking place and were cheering us on through the villages. felt like a pro :D Even a pub emptied to shout and clap, with the smooth roads as well that was the best 30 miles of my life

Riding along, got called out by a badger, got off and went 12 rounds with it. I won when I got a clean uppercut to its furry jaw. It won't be so quick to insult me next time the stripy twat.

Leading out the weds night chaingang the other week and a car coming the other way had someone hanging out of it shouting "come on brad".

Couople of years ago slogging up a climb near my home a taxi slowed down coming past me and two women shouted out of the window "nice arse!" i just winked and carried on.

I had similar comments about my legs from a woman driving alongside me in Wakefield town centre last year - she went on a bit though, and I think her son was in the car with her!

She wasn't up to much but still was a nice buzz
