Cycling Tans

Does anyone else get the proverbial ripped for your cycling tans? I took my top off the other day on the beach and got flack for about half an hour from my mates, including the classic (which I will always remember):

"Have you dipped your arms in tar?"

I ride naked so I don't have this problem. Nobody takes the piss out of me.

If you're bothered I guess you could get on a sunbed for a while?

I tan very easily, so the effect is even more pronounced on me. I wear my cycling tan with pride as proof of hours spent in the saddle. A lot of people can't say too much - it looks a damn sight better than moobs and a beergut.

    No.

They're too busy blowing out of their ass having cycled with me on their way to the beach.

I have brown D shapes on the back of my hands from the holes in my cycling mitts. It's a good look...

I don't care about cycling tans on my legs/arms etc but being a slaphead does make for interesting summer riding.

I can't wear a cycling cap in summer as i'll overheat and will pass out, so I have to slap lots of factor 50 on in the hope i don't have a nice air vent suntan on my head

My head is scorching after a gentle 2 hour-ish ride this morning.

I tell people that it's a KOM tan, and I earned it.

I was in the US a couple of years ago and was on the beach in my swim shorts when an American lady said to me 'wow, that's some farmer's tan you've got there'....never heard that before.

I came out of the showers after a game of squash and a bloke just peered at me and said 'what happened? Did you have a complete new set fitted?'.

Genuinely funny. At the time. :)

Tan lines from wearing shorts & Tshirt are fairly common, so I dont find they get any remarks. What looks odd to me though, it white hands where I have been wearing mitts - tan lines at the wrist are something new to me since I started cycling alot...
  • I'm currently attempting to merge all my freckles together to get a super tan...

Cycling tans, this year? Are you joking. This week is the first time I've worn a short sleeved shirt since March.....

Despite the crap whether I have the most distinct cycling tan I've ever had this year. My kids have been laughing at my jazz hands look (not even the trade mark brown oval as no hole on the back of my mitts). Makes me feel like a real cyclist at last even if no-one who sees me on a bike is fooled!

I've been rubbing Johnson's Baby Oil on my arms and legs prior to heading out. Looking to cook my skin even more :D

I'm proud of my slightly ridiculous looking tan, and love giving anyone how rips the piss out of it an earful about how it's been earned!!!

No matter how much I go out my legs seem impervious to sun - the only bit that changes colour at all is the bit between the shorts and my knee (and this is only by a shade or two), so I just have a faint 10cm strip across the front of my legs above my knee - the rest just refuses to change colour, most annoying!!!!

Amen. If you go to the beach on holiday, cycling gear must be brought along!
