One is listed by golds the other is listed by overall total :?:
There was some cheating involved.0 -
Exactly! Check out the one on the official website, looks like the 'Merican one ine wrong!

(although at the moment American is only one medal off the lead. This thread might not make sense tomorrow)0 -

They look exactly the same to me. Click the gold medal in the first link to 'sort by gold'. The yanks have gone for 'total medals' as a default as it puts them ahead of ChinaFaster than a tent.......0 -

Both total medals and total golds are valid ways of scoring overall performance - and at any rate as of this evening the Americans have eclipsed China in both catagories rendering the thread moot.0

Its nothing new. Whilst the universal approach is to categorize by the number of golds rather than total medals, people will try to use other metrics to get themselves up the table. It's something the Americans do at every Olympics, and more apparent by their position near the top, but the Australians take the prize this time by trying to combine their medal tally with that of New Zealand to elevate their position in the table.0

The Aussies opted for that ploy in Beijing when the overtook them in the medal table. I suspect this time they are doing it based on how many times a country's athletes start a sentence with 'well, look' in interviews0 -
