I'm probably not the only one getting excited about these now ;)

Seeing as i've never ridden a BMX, i'm guessing I wouldn't tell the difference between a £50 sports direct jobbie or a £1k sparkly spangly thing.

Seems like a bargain http://www.winstanleysbmx.com/product/36492/Haro_1003_Bike_2011 which hopefully wouldn't break in 2 the first time I crash it.

Guessing it would be all i'd need for playing around on pump tracks, bunny hopping etc?

That isn't a topic that comes up often but I'm pretty sure someone tried to make a guide of what to look for in a bmx a while back. It was at least a similar question to start anyways!

Used to ride BMX for years myself, Haro as I'm sure your aware is a really really big player in BMX the bike itself in question you've linked is in the entry level bracket of things with regards to there range but none the less it is still a pretty decent bike, however if I was buying from the clearance Winstanleys have on right now mate I'd say this would be a better option than the Haro for just £257, Eastern BMX bikes are bullet proof http://www.winstanleysbmx.com/product/4 ... 2_BMX_Bike

I currently ride BMX and have done for 7 years.

Do not buy Haro, they are a shadow of what they once were - just another generic walmart brand that WILL fall apart the first time you ride it - bikes designed for the under 16 market with terrible components that fit into parents budgets. Haro no longer make any proper BMX parts aimed at the over 20 adult market. Do not buy.

Honestly - just a waste of money and will ruin your experience of BMX.

As with MTB, until you get to a certain price point all you're buying is a bike shaped object.

    this is a good buy.

    as is this.

    Also:

Winstanleys have a TERRIBLE reputation in the BMX world - Avoid like the plauge. I'd never buy a thing from them personally.

    Look on

    Custom Riders
    Alans BMX
    Pijin.co.uk
    Billys BMX
    Brighton BMX
    Source BMX
    flatsquirrelbmx

These are some trustworthly BMX resellers that will sell you a good product for your hard earned cash.

    Steady on now.

The BMX is excellent. and was pretty damned cheap too.

I've found it to be an excellent way of getting a really high intensity workout, and I also believe it's improved by MTB as a result.

Here is the thread I started when I was looking for one:

    viewtopic.php?f=20005&t=12862710&hilit=+redline+asset

There is a lot of info in there, seems to mostly boil down to the fact you can pick up one that works for a couple of hundred quid. Look for 3 piece cranks & cro-mo frame & forks, and despite what my LBS might think, there is more than 1 size.

As for the poster above, I don't follow, you link to 2 bikes on winstanleys, and then tell the OP not to buy them. Eh?

I'm well aware of the horrible rep winstanleys have, but both of my recent purchases from them have been superb bargains and excellent service. I'd personally not have any issues with buying from them again.

I unfortunately don't have time to go through every reseller to find a bike - the examples were just to show the OP where his money would be better spent at the same shop.

Alans BMX and Custom Riders have dedicated Race sections. I'd look at those. Alans have a great history in BMX race.

Haro do a range of bikes from budget entry level to top end race. Unfortunately, like Suntour, we generally only see the cheaper stuff.

Long gone are the days when for less than 250 quid you could get a BMX with full cromo frames, forks, bars and cranks, and decent sealed bearings. That Eastern looks no better than the Haro, just a better gearing system.

I'd try and stretch to this:

Lots of cromo, sealed parts, 9t cassette driver, decent tyres too.

And yet I've been buying bmx stuff from Winstanleys since 2006 and only had a couple of minor issues. Have even driven to their industrial unit in Wigan several times they were incredibly helpful. Alan's in the town also great service.

Try and buy one that fits aswell. If you're tall (6') then you want to be looking at a 21" TT and some fairly big bars.

Wow, loads to look at here. To be fair, it's going to get little use and I aint going to be doing half pipes n sh1t on it, so does not need to be top spec.
I'm 6' 1 so will keep tt in mind.

I found the service and communication with Alans to be poor at the best, constantly fobbed of with excuses about bike delays and a lack of updates.
