How do you clean your gloves?

It's come to my attention that my gloves are starting to get pretty grimy with a mix of mud and dried sweat, but according to the label, I can't throw them in the washing machine.

So, how do you clean your gloves (if you do)?

I throw them in the washing machine along with my riding gear. Had no problems in the last year and they get washed at least once a month.

+1 washing machine. Also shrinks them down a bit to get rid of that slack feel.

Washing machine, low temp quick wash, no shrink, no issues, no smell.

Other than washing machine how else do you think you could clean them thoroughly? I don't think you could, not enough to really clean them anyway.

Generally I wash 'em along with the rest of my kit & me in the shower

I try not to wash them too often thought the stench is most excellent at repelling dogs
  • I don't.
They stink like I am wearing a 4 month old plaster cast, but it's a kind of comforting smell.

Hm, maybe the washing machine isn't as destructive as the label says. I'll sling them in later, thanks.
  • Wear them and wash your hands with plenty of soap and hot water.

You could hand wash but frankly washing machine is easier and more effective.

I just don't tumble dry them as mine shrink too much then!!

    +washing machine with a potato

Well a potato might make a bit of a mess.

I only do it rarely. Frequent washing wears them out, but then riding also does. Just buy them cheap and replace when falling apart.

Just don't stick your helmet padding in as well. I tried and major fail.

Those open foam ones tend to fall apart in the washing machine, but the 'sealed' ones are ok. One reason I like the fox flux - 100% washable pads!

  • I normally hand wash them or chuck them in the washing machine if there really dirty, doesn't seem to do them any damage

Yup, exactly what happened. Fortunately thel33ter had one he'd headbutted a treestump with but with perfect padding.

I hand them to a woman to deal with and when I need them again to ride they are clean and smell good.

Think she uses a washing machine too

I bought a pair of gill roping gloves designed for sailing. Lasted about 3 years bit starting to wear out from 3000 miles on drop bars because of the different hand position. Chucked in the washing machine whenever they get a bit smelly. Soon to be replaced with another pair.

A peeshooter can hardly be considered a weapon. (Did you see what I did there?)

    Washing. Machine.

    Hung to dry.

Current gloves are washable anyway but my old ones weren't and treatment was the same.

Same here, Met helmet pads are fine in the laundry. And they air dry in about half an hour or so.
Gloves are fine in the tumble dryer though.

Another vote for washing machine, I think I've owned almost every major brand of glove and all have gone through with no problem, the only thing I would say is some aren't very colour-fast - my red troy lees XCs went pink pretty quickly

Also if you tumble dry them I find a lot of the ones with rubbery graphics tend to start peeling...
